Ahhhh Summer Time, (anyone else hear Will’s Smith’s Summertime song in their head? Anyone? Anyone?) when being outside seems to be a better idea than sitting under a blanket inside, going for walks on a boardwalk, hanging out at the beach and enjoying some ice cream or a lemon ice?
On a hot day if you enjoy a cold beer and enjoy the taste of lemon then you are in luck! This week I (Craig) enjoyed a delicious Del’s Shandy from Narragansett. Now you are probably thinking “Lemon?! Beer?! Are you mad?! Don’t fruit the beer!” I’ve heard that before and honestly I use to be one of those people who thought that. My beer taste have expanded over the years to be willing to give any new beer I come across a try. This is one of those times I’m happy I did.
Del’s Shandy has that initial pucker of lemon then it’s like drinking the sweet nectar of whats on the bottom of that lemon ice cup! It’s crisp and refreshing when ice cold. After that first sip I became nostalgic for those days of getting a lemon ice at a store near my parents and trying to get every last drop out of that little wax cup. Sticky fingers be damned! Perfect for a hot summer day or a warm summer night while hanging out. It’s little harder than a hard lemonade and definitely not as sweet, which is fine in my book. This is a beer you really can’t milk and try to drink over the course of 90 minutes as the warmer it gets the more the flavor dissipates.
So if you enjoy summer, beer and the flavor of lemon then you owe to your self to try a Del’s Shandy by Narragansett. A New England Classic!
